July 8th, 2009 Meeting: John Zale from WEVA and the Editor’s Showdown

John Zale - director of education for WEVA
Hey guys and gals… the next MIVA meeting is going to be a good one, so don’t miss it… Here’s what’s on tap…
First off, John Zale from WEVA will be here to talk about all things WEVA. With the annual WEVA Expo coming up soon (September), he’ll have lots of great info to pass along to MIVA members attending (or thinking about attending) the Expo. John will also be helping us out as we present MIVA’s first “Editor’s Showdown”. At last month’s meeting, 4 studios from within MIVA received the same bridal prep footage from which they are to edit a 4 minute or less piece. This footage was graciously donated for the Showdown by a 2 time EventDV 25 winner (we’ll announce who at the meeting…). We’ll screen all 4 entries and you’ll have a chance to vote for your favorite. We’ll even have a little Q&A with the editors to find out the thought process behind each of their edits.
And, to top it off, George Haddad from George’s Video and LCD4Video.com will demonstrate a new product line of LCD lights his company is carrying. Sounds like a meeting you don’t want to miss!
OK, here are the details…
Meeting date: July 8, 2009
Meeting place: Bastone’s
419 S. Main
Royal Oak, MI 48067
248.544.6250
Meeting time: 7 pm – 9pm-ish

REMEMBER… because of the 4th of July holiday, this month’s meeting is the 2nd Wednesday of July – the 8th. Don’t forget!
Happy 4th everyone and we’ll see you at the meeting!!
More about John Zale:
With a background in music (Wedding Bands) and video (selling video cameras and decks in retail environments) in 1984 Zale started All Occasion Video & Music Services (which became AudioVisual Productions in the early 90’s). The company started out specializing in weddings and events, along with promoting bands and dj services.
Zale attended his first WEVA EXPO in 1991 and has attended them all. Over the years, Zale has spoken at numerous EXPO’s, been on various panels and was a Creative Excellence Judge (when all the entrees were on VHS) In 1999 as part of WEVA’s non-linear editing committee, he visited Applied Magic as part of a 15 member focus group. Within a couple of months of that meeting, Applied Magic had offered him a fulltime position and Zale changed his video production business to part-time.
In 2004 Zale went to work for WEVA as the Director of Education, a position he still holds today.
Happily married for over 21 years (due in part to the 4 camera coverage of their wedding ceremony!), he and his wife are proud parents of 2 graduates in 2009, one from high school and the other from 8th grade. A loyal Cubs fan, Zale is looking forward to the day when the Cubs can erase the memory of the Detroit Tigers beating the Cubs the last time they were in the World Series in 1945!
